This competition scheme for the expansion of Asplund’s Stockholm Library was designed in collaboration with Diamond Architects. It is part town hall, where people meet, and part department store where people roam. The scheme, with its sequence of courts and terraces, makes explicit the connection between the library, the street – Odengatan – and observatory perched on the parkland hilltop – Observatorielunden or “Observatory grove” – behind.
